Celebrating Cork Oak Heritage: Learning, Sharing, and Growing Together in Tabarka

At the National Cork Museum in Tabarka, curiosity and passion for nature came together as forestry students from the Institute of Forests and Rangelands, accompanied by their instructor Mr. Foued Hassnaoui, joined a special learning visit alongside Mr. Renaud Piazzetta, Technical Director of the Mediterranean Cork Institute.

The group explored the fascinating world of the cork oak — a tree that has shaped local landscapes, traditions, and livelihoods for generations. Through rich exchanges, they learned how cork has been harvested and transformed over time, and how innovation can help preserve this precious natural heritage for the future.

The visit became a meaningful moment of connection: between science and culture, between experts and youth, and between history and the sustainable opportunities of tomorrow. It also highlighted the value of strengthening cooperation among institutions, researchers, and students to protect Tunisia’s forest knowledge and keep it alive.

With every workshop and encounter, the National Cork Museum continues to inspire learning and awareness — reminding us that our forests are not just ecosystems but living heritage worth celebrating and protecting.
