Biodiversity Week in El Kala: a milestone for conservation in Algeria

WWF North Africa had the honor of supporting Biodiversity Week in El Kala, organized in partnership with the General Directorate of Forests and the dedicated conservation team of El Kala National Park.

From the opening ceremony, attended by the Secretary General of the Wilaya of El Tarf (representing the Governor) and a representative of the President of the Popular Assembly of the Wilaya, the event gained strong visibility thanks to media coverage coordinated by our communications team. Organizing interviews, highlighting official speeches, and ensuring wide press dissemination helped shed light on the challenges and key players of conservation.

Throughout the week, several field activities were carried out — in forests, on beaches, and in wetlands — offering participants an immersive experience in El Kala’s ecosystems. These activities proved to be powerful awareness-raising tools, bringing people closer to the realities of local biodiversity and to the daily efforts dedicated to its protection.

To close the event, WWF led a training on environmental communication, which also included modules on advocacy and fundraising. Designed for young, committed participants, the training provided them with concrete tools to structure their initiatives and amplify their impact. The rich and inspiring exchanges underlined the determination of a new generation to actively contribute to nature conservation.

We warmly thank our institutional and civil society partners for their trust and collaboration, as well as all participants for their passion and energy.

This Biodiversity Week in El Kala will remain a significant moment — not only for the richness of the encounters but also for the collective momentum it inspired in favor of conservation in Algeria.
